Weekly News – Friday 29th November

Message from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

This is my last communication in November! Time seems to be speeding up… I suspect this will be the last newsletter where I don’t mention the CH word!

This week’s starring senior occasion was the fabulous presentation evening for the children, staff and visiting dignitaries for the Architecture Project last night. I have been thinking a lot recently about what is really to be valued in a 21st century education and the culmination of this project firmed up my views that some of the best learning children can do is through multi-disciplinary work, where they can see connections between areas and linked to community.  This project, which enabled a group of pupils to work with architects, city planning and Nottingham Trent University must have been a revelation to them. It was to me. My heartfelt congratulations go to all pupils involved; to Mrs Howlett and Mr Thompson; and to Dr Alvarez, a parent of the school, who made it all possible.

Tonight I am hosting Parents’ Forum to see if we can get this moving forwards again. Thank you to the new members for volunteering. We have an action packed agenda and I hope we will have positive discussions! There are still a couple of spaces available, so pop along if you want to get a flavour – 4.00pm in my office.

Next week we are looking forward to the Year 9 options afternoon on Thursday 5th December and hope that parents of pupils in Year 9 will be able to make it to hear the staff presentations about their subjects to better enable them to make these important choices.

My nag of the week this week goes to: CHEWING GUM and FIZZY DRINKS. Can I remind parents and their children that neither are permitted in school.

My beg of the week is: RAFFLE PRIZES for the HAMPERS.  I have a small selection to date. Raffle tickets have arrived and will shortly be distributed for sale for what I hope will be a fine array of hampers… please donate a little something to enable this to be its usual success!

My reminder of the week: Remember that next Friday (6th December),  is our occasional day off in lieu of Prize Giving. School will be closed.

We have available the following job opportunity: Admissions Manager and Head’s PA. Further particulars and an application form will be available on the school website by the end of today.

Dear Parents,

This week, Early Years have had a fantastic Story Week and particularly enjoyed getting snuggly in their pyjamas and dressing gowns for their bedtime afternoon. I had the pleasure of reading one of my favourites (and also my little boy’s favourite), Stick Man, to them this morning.

Next week, on Monday, Mr Goodhead and Mr Ockelford are taking a boys’ football team to play against Dixie Grammar School and Twycross House; the best of luck to all involved.

On Wednesday 4th December, there will be another pop up uniform shop in the Friends’ Room from 8.00am to 10.00am. If you haven’t already purchased the new school coat, this is an opportunity to as we do expect all children to be wearing them from January.

I hope you found the summary of Christmas events useful (this is on the website should you need another copy). Trees and decorations have started to be put up around Junior School and children are certainly starting to get very excited.

A reminder that on Friday 6th December, school is closed for our annual Prize Giving rehearsal.

We have available the following job opportunity: Admissions Manager and Head’s PA. Further particulars and an application form will be available on the school website by the end of today.

Have a lovely weekend,
