Weekly News – Friday 22nd November

Message from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

What a great time we had at the Curry night on Monday! I hoped all who came enjoyed the quiz and well done to our team of parents who did astonishingly well gaining 64/84 on what many thought were tough questions! (Do I need to make it harder?) Thank you to The Cumin for their fabulous food and hospitality and to the Friends of Hollygirt for organising another fabulous event.

We have welcomed 2 new support workers into Senior School this week: Miss Williams and Mrs Kareer. We hope they will be very happy with us at Hollygirt.

Actually it has been a quiet and settled week in school but we are aware that as we end November, we start to get Christmas on the agenda and I remind parents, especially new parents, of our request for raffle prizes for the amazing Friends of Hollygirt Hamper Raffle which is drawn at the Christmas Fair. I have a small and growing collection in my office. Please send your donations in…

Next week I am really looking forward to seeing the work done by our group working on the Architecture Project with Nottingham City Council and Trent University. Sadly there is limited capacity at the Carrington Street Urban Rooms so we cannot throw out an invitation to you all but we will collate a photographic record of the event for our social media.  As I said at Prize Giving, it has been a most remarkable project and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead.

Next Friday we have a PARENTS’ FORUM meeting scheduled at 4.00pm. This group is too small and we have struggled for the last year. I would like to revitalise it and increase impact it can have on school strategy and I am urgently seeking people who would willingly be part of this. We meet once a half term, currently on a Friday night at 4.00pm for an hour or so.  Could you email me directly on headmistress@hollygirt.notts.sch.uk  if you would like to come and be a regular member of this group. The purpose is to discuss general things raised by parents, staff or myself which will aid our future improvement. We do not speak about specific issues relating to individual pupils or staff. If I can get between 4 to 8 people willing to come we can re-discuss whether a different time would better suit and we could reaffirm our objectives. All parents may submit agenda items to me for discussion and we publicise our minutes on the website.  If there is not the interest at the current time, I will postpone all this year’s meetings and try again next year!  Please come; it’s good to talk and to share views.

Thank you for those who donated sleeping bags for the homeless. They have now been collected.

Have a lovely weekend.

Dear Parents,

It was lovely to see some of you at Curry Night on Monday.  The food as usual was delicious and plentiful and Mrs Hutley’s quiz made us work quite hard too! Sadly, I didn’t win a raffle prize but well done to those who did. Thank you to Friends of Hollygirt for organising this event.

Our Nursery to Year 3 children thoroughly enjoyed their drama workshops yesterday and we do have some leaflets with a special discount code on should this be something you wish to continue with out of school.

Click here to download the Perform leaflet

Year 6, Mrs Keyworth and Mrs Mason are currently on their way to Creswell Crags and I am sure they will have a fantastic day; I look forward to seeing the photographs.

You should have now had information offering the children their flu vaccinations; please read this carefully and fill in the consent if you wish your child to have this.

On Wednesday, we are holding our final EYFS Stay and Play Session of 2019. These will continue after Christmas and throughout the rest of the academic year for any children who are looking to join Nursery or Reception.

I am sending home a letter with details of the Christmas Fair and singing in the Victoria Centre later this term.  On the reverse of this letter is a summary of December events in juniors – there are a lot! Hopefully, this makes it clear what is happening when but any questions, please ask! A reminder that school is closed on Friday 6th December for out annual Prize Giving holiday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Wright
