I feel like I’ve been on weather watch for the past seven days with open morning and school photos on the agenda. A big thank you to parents for your support of these recent events, in particular open morning. It has a huge impact on prospective parents when they can talk to current parents about Hollygirt and your experiences of the school. Likewise, being toured by welcoming and confident pupils who are enthusiastic about their school is a great assurance to prospective parents.
Next week I’m excited to be welcoming members of the Royal Navy to the Food Tech department, several of our Food Tech GCSE students will be engaging in a cooking challenge, developing key skills for their assessments and learning a little about the various career options available in the Navy. We’ll be finishing up the week at the Southwell Ploughing match, once again sponsoring the children’s classes. Several pupils from Prep and Senior school are in the process of creating wonderful works of Arts and craft ready for us to submit. Hollygirt school will have a stand at the event, do pop along and say hello to us if you’re visiting the event.
I recently received a communication from Councillor Linda Woodings, Executive member for road safety at Nottingham City Council that I would like to share with you:
“Very sadly, over the last school year, we had three children injured after being knocked down by cars outside different Nottingham schools. Not by passers-by, but by other parents who had dropped off their own children and were rushing to get away.
This new academic year I’m asking all parents and carers to…
BE TIMELY – Can people try to get to school in good time to be able to park away from the school gates, especially the zig-zag lines, and walk their children up to the school gates? This keeps the area clear from hazards, giving better visibility to everyone.
BE CONSIDERATE – Can parents/carers please park considerately; not blocking the pavement or residents’ driveways, and can they turn off their engines whilst waiting?
BE PATIENT – Can drivers be careful and patient as they drive away? This is when accidents have previously happened.”
I appreciate that parking in the vicinity of the school can be difficult, this is further complicated by the incorrect signage by the traffic calming single vehicle passing point by the Elm Avenue gates. We have informed the council but also ask for consideration in not parking on the double yellows around this area as even a few minutes can reduce passing points and causes tensions to rise. Additionally, please be aware that the annual Goose Fair will also introduce further parking and travel restrictions.
Prize Giving evening is drawing ever closer, we will be notifying parents by Monday if your child will be receiving a prize. I am looking forward to seeing you all on the evening of Thursday 2nd October for the celebration of the past school year. Please note, there will be no extracurricular clubs on this day and After School Club and Homework club will run until 4:30pm to allow staff to travel to and support set up of the venue.
Ever Onward and Upward
Ms Purdy
