Weekly News – Friday 12th May 2023

Message from the Head

Dear Parents,

Blighted by the weather again – we felt the forecast and the cold temperatures were not conducive to an outside event this afternoon, but I hope the Prep parents were able to enjoy something of a coronation event inside.

It’s been lovely to see so many of our Year 11s in school this week for revision sessions and reminds me just how much I will miss them although I will still see some of them in Sixth Form of course!  To those that will eventually go – we will miss you terribly and wish you every success on your journey and we are still here for you!  Mrs Brimblecombe also has a few words for you:

Year 11 had a leavers’ trip last week.  They enjoyed a competitive two games of laser tag followed by a trip to Zizzi.  All pupils were impeccably behaved and we shall miss them.  Last Friday, our Year 11s officially left after a reward leavers’ assembly – with lots of shirt signing, tears and memories made.

We also have a Futsal report from Mr Dean.  Well done to all who participated!

Year 9 boys attended a Nottingham City Futsal tournament on Wednesday.  The highly competitive games saw Hollygirt lose two and draw one match.  The team played well and were competitive against schools choosing their teams from year groups of well over 200 students.  Well done to Hasan, Amanveer, Charlie, Daiyan, Khalid, Benjamin and Rehaan for representing the school so proudly.

This week was Year 10 Parents’ Evening and reports sent home.  I spent some of last weekend reading all of the reports and was really delighted by many of the staff comments; words of wisdom imparted and the belief from the Hollygirt team in the students being able to do well.  The comments spoke of a staff who truly care for their students and who are willing them on to do well.

We have had quite a few new students join us and the message is to make sure we plug any gaps over the summer ready to hit the ground running in September and to our other lovely Year 10s – now is the time for heads down and focus on study.  Year 10 have moved form rooms and now occupy the old Year 11 spaces and of course the newly elected Head Students and Prefect Team have had their introduction to the school community and their first prefect meeting.  My congratulations to Noah for being elected Head Student and to Gabi and Sufyaan for an equal vote for Deputy Head Students.  Congrats too to the senior prefects, Charlotte, Amelie C, Amelie M and Lotty and the overall prefect team with Joy and Andrew as Prep prefects, Rhiya and Hope as Events prefects, Lotty and Edie as Arts prefects, Polly and Tamelia as Well-being prefects and Cas as Sports prefect.  We look forward to working hard with you to keep us moving ever onward and upward.

Have a good weekend,

Helen Barsham

Message from the Deputy Head / Head of Prep

Good afternoon,

I am looking forward to the Coronation Tea Party this afternoon, to watching the children’s performances and hope to see many of you there.

On Monday, Mr Goodhead has arranged for Kindergarten and Prep to visit Trinity Church for an assembly.

Next week, KS2 teachers will be helping the children with revision for their assessments the following week.  They will teach them useful techniques to help recall what they have learnt over the year.

As I emailed out earlier in the week, we still need help to serve refreshments at both Prep and Senior Sports Days (20th and 27th June).  If you are able to help out at either of the events, even for a short time, please let me know.  Many thanks for the offers so far and I will be in touch with more details.

Next week we will be sending out details of our upcoming Prep School Garden Party.  Preparations are already underway for this annual event which this year takes place during the morning of Saturday 1st July – please save the date.

Have a lovely weekend,

Victoria Wright
