Message from the Acting Head

Dear Parents

It was amazing to welcome back pupils to school on Tuesday and lovely to hear about their exciting adventures over the Easter break.

It’s been a very busy, but rewarding first week back.

On Tuesday, I held the Prefect interviews.  I was so impressed by the Year 10s answers and how they conducted themselves in the interviews.  I am delighted to say that I have invited 8 pupils to fulfil the role and I know that they will represent Hollygirt to the highest level.

Also on Tuesday, Mr Dean and Mrs Wilkins took our Year 8 Dodgeball team to the National Secondary Schools Championships in Derby.  The team had an amazing tournament and were placed 5th out of 9 teams.  They received a special commendation for their sportsmanship – something that I am very proud of.  It demonstrates that our pupils conduct themselves in a sporting manner at competitions when representing the school.

This week in Food lessons with Ms Hill, the Year 7s have been faced with the Tunnock’s Teacake Challenge – ‘To create a piece of culinary art with a stunning plated Tunnock’s Teacake.  Using your artistic creativity and food preparation skills style a plate of food with a Tunnock’s Teacake on the theme of The Four Elements.’   7B practised in pairs this week and will be working individually next week on their own entry.  For more information on this national challenge click here.  We look forward to seeing their creations!

Kind regards

Message from the Head of Prep / Deputy Head of Seniors

Good afternoon,

I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing break.

Year 3 enjoyed their visit to the library this morning.  They listened to a lovely story read by the librarian, explored the wide selection of books available and played some exciting games in the immersive room.

The Science Fair for KS2 is next Friday and we are looking forward to seeing the projects which the children have completed.  These should be dropped off to the Sixth Form building on the morning of 26th.  The children will be presenting their projects to parents and grandparents between 8.45am and 9.45am so please join us if you can.

Next Saturday 27th April is Open Day and thank you to children who are able to join us – Years 5 and 6 to tour families and the other children to participate in fun activities with their teachers.

You should have received an email about a disco for Prep children on Wednesday 1st May.  This will be run by the Friends of Hollygirt.  If you can help out at this event, please indicate this on the form.  All offers of help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much to parents who have volunteered to come and speak at our Careers Day on Wednesday 8th May.  We still have space for a couple more talks so please let Mrs Heatlie know if you would be happy to speak at this event.

New programmes for this term’s Extra Curricular Activities have been sent out.  Please could you fill these in over the weekend.  It looks like a really exciting ECA programme.

We are starting to plan this year’s Garden Party which will be on Saturday 29th June from 10.30am to 1.00pm.  Please save the date!

Next week we look forward to welcoming a work experience student from Wednesday to Friday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Victoria Wright
