Message from the Deputy Head

Dear Parents,

At the start of the week the Hollygirt Community learned that Dr Barsham will be leaving our team at the end of term.  Staff, parents and pupils will miss Doc B and on behalf of the school I would like to thank her for everything that she achieved for our school.  If you would like to pass on your best wishes, please let me know.

Our Year 10 pupils have been on Work Experience this week.  Staff have enjoyed visiting pupils on their placements and hearing about their learning experiences.  We look forward to welcoming pupils back next week and knowing more about their amazing experiences.

On Monday we celebrated Pi Day and Science Week with an assembly by Mr Rollinson and on Tuesday I did a Comic Relief assembly.  For Comic Relief, pupils in Years 7 to 9 took part in a dance-a-thon led by Miss Nisan and Mrs Brimblecombe (see pictures below).  All pupils took part in the Inter-Form Challenge.

Year 7 have enjoyed making Easter cakes in their Food lessons this week.  I’m sure that they tasted as good as they look below:

On Thursday I held the Pupil Voice meeting and the feedback on the quality of education from the Form Representatives was useful.

Next week is our Competition Week between Houses and I will also be inviting Year 10 to apply to become a Prefect.

There is a useful post in the Sixth Form weekly news for all Year 10 & 11 parents to read, providing advice and resources on how to support effective revision.  For Sixth Form News please click the link here.

Have a lovely weekend.

Message from the Head of Prep

Good afternoon,

Science Week has been fantastic and Prep children have really enjoyed lessons in both the labs and the classrooms.  For some children, it has been their first experience of Science in the labs; thank you to the Science department for making this possible.  I have seen so many investigations going on this week and the children have impressed us with their ability to predict, carry out experiments and give detailed explanations.  Please look out for the photos on social media.

Mrs Wand launched the Science projects for the Science Fair and I know children are already planning what they would like to investigate.  They have plenty of time to do this with projects being due in on Friday 26th April.  Like last year, I am sure this will be a brilliant event and I hope you will be able to join us on the day.  You should have also received an email about the Science Week poster competition which is open to all year groups in the Prep School.  This is due in on Friday 22nd March.

Yesterday was Maths Day and children took part in a variety of fun Maths activities; we have discussed how much we use Maths in our every day lives.

Our Year 5 and 6 netball team competed in a High Fives tournament on Wednesday and I am proud to say, came home with the trophy!  They played against five different schools, winning all the matches, 1-0, 5-0, 3-0, 8-0 and 3-1.  This is amazing and what a lot of talented netball players we have.  Thank you to Mrs Keyworth for all of her effort in training the team and to Mrs Mason for accompanying them to the tournament.  See photo in the main header of this week’s Weekly News.  Mrs Keyworth would also like to add:

A humongous well done to the entire team – their enthusiasm and competitiveness really shone through and they were so supportive of one another.  A great achievement.

The team then took on the staff yesterday afternoon which was great fun!

A huge well done to Year 6 (and parents) who baked such a great variety of cakes and other delicious treats for their bake sale yesterday for Red Nose Day.  Thank you all so much.  This afternoon, we will all be completing a fun run to add to this total.  Thank you for sponsoring the children.

Below is a message for parents from our Chair of Friends of Hollygirt:

Dear Parents,

A message from the heart of Friends of Hollygirt (FOH).  We would like to invite you to take part in our first meeting of the year, planning up and coming events and future ones for our children and some just for ourselves!

We need your support to continue giving our wonderful school; staff, children and parents the opportunity to meet, have fun and raise money!

Friday 22nd March – 3.45-4.40pm – meet at Reception in the Senior School.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

If you can’t be there in person we will be facilitating an online option.
Best Wishes, Inge

The auditions for The Lion King had to be postponed and these will now take place next Thursday afternoon so the children have a little more time to prepare for these.

Have a lovely weekend,
