As we come to the end of the half term, I want to extend my thanks to the pupils, parents, and staff; all of you have made me feel so welcome, it feels as though I have been here six years rather than six weeks! And for the avoidance of doubt, that’s a very good feeling.
We’ve ended the week on a very good note; you may have seen on social media that Bo had a wonderful time at the Springboard Future Chef Regional Finals, finishing in second place. Everyone at Hollygirt is so incredibly proud of her efforts and the way she conducted herself in the finals, and we’re sure she’s an inspiration to her peers and fellow pupils to chase your dreams and take the opportunities that come your way. I’ve already seen some of Prep pupils making delicious looking dishes – although with creative clay. I’m sure Bo will enjoy practising and developing her skills in her new personalised chef whites!
Year 9 and Year 10 joined together today for a Careers Day, they were tasked in groups to re-purpose and re-design a room within school with a wellbeing focus. Pupils were asked to take on specific roles within their groups and consider how leadership, teamwork, delegation and problem solving might come into play as they made their designs and pitches. We’ll be revealing the winning teams at the start of next half term, so keep your eyes peeled.
A big thank you to family members who were able to attend the Someone Special Afternoons this week in the Prep school, I know Mrs Wight was impressed with the array of skills on show. I am also preparing to demonstrate some skills of my own by taking on the reading challenge over half term and look forward to comparing my numbers with the Prep pupils when we return to school.
If you’re looking for some activities to take part in, the Nottinghamshire Festival of Science and Curiosity began this week and runs through half term. More information on events happening around the city can be found here Public Events – Nottinghamshire Festival of Science and Curiosity Thank you to Dr Dambire for the recommendation.
Looking ahead to next half term, there is the Year 10 parents’ meeting On Thursday 27th February, and Year 9 will begin the process of selecting their options choices, so do be sure to have a conversation around this over half term.
Finally, a word on uniform. We’ve noticed a few blazers being replaced by jackets, branded sports kit in place of Hollygirt PE kit, and a sets of false eyelashes. We’d be grateful to parents if they could take a moment to review the uniform list and expectations, and help your child be correctly attired.
Ever onwards and Upwards
