A big well done to Noah and Travis for their participation in the Nottingham Final round of the Springboard Future chef competition; sadly, some strong competition meant neither progressed this year, but we look forward to future efforts from our pupils. Miss Hill commented:
It wasn’t to be today but they both gave it a really good go and both received very complimentary feedback from the judges, particularly Noah who was told “his dish shouldn’t have worked but did and they’d not seen anything like it before”. They gave the impression he just got pipped to the post!
I am pleased with how they worked under pressure and out of their comfort zone, whilst answering questions from the chef judges.
The school continues to thrive in other areas; this week I have been discussing artwork with Mrs Phipps and refreshing a number of spaces in the main school building with current pupil’s artwork. Mrs Phipps has already done an amazing job of updating the displays in the White house and I’m looking forward to seeing this spread further across all school buildings. Mrs Phipps is currently supporting pupils in putting together entries for the Royal Academy young artists summer show and in putting together their applications to be Hollygirt Art Ambassadors. I was pleased to discover several pupils in the Art department using their break times to work on their application posters, real dedication and a great example of Hollygirt hard work!
Sport is another blossoming area; thanks to Mr Beresford’s efforts in exploring options for participation and fixtures. He has been exploring less traditional sports including Handball and you’re already aware of Dodgeball success! Prep school pupils have been taking part in Tag Rugby with other local prep schools, I’m particularly proud that Hollygirt is leading the way in creating these fixtures where they haven’t previously existed. This afternoon pupils from year five to year eleven are off to the Ice Rink for more exercise and to develop a few basic skills in the hope of inspiring the next Torvill and Dean, we already have a few accomplished and aspiring figure skaters in school, maybe we can encourage a few more or even an Ice Hockey player or two!
It feels like November has been a very long month, Monday finally sees the beginning of December and for many there is a little more excitement as Christmas approaches. For some, the festive period can be more stressful, as can the cold days and longer nights. We have many things to look forward to in the next three weeks, but if pupils do start to struggle, please let us know. We are always looking out for all of our pupils, but the more we know the better we can tailor that support.
Finally, a reminder that school is closed next Friday, 5th December for Prize giving day; I hope this provides a timely break for pupils as they head into the final two weeks of term.
And some future dates: You will have received invitations to our Christmas market and Carol Concert, both on the 18th December; and school closes for the Winter Break at 12.30pm on Friday 19th December.
Ever Onward and Upward
