Years 7 to 9 Easter Projects for Chemistry – ‘Mineral Matters’ and ‘Sustainability at Hollygirt’

Don’t forget there are lots of fun Easter holiday projects and competitions uploaded onto Satchel:One by your child’s teachers if you’re at home thinking “what now?”.

Mrs Carr has invited pupils in Years 7 to 8 to take part in a project called ‘Mineral Matters’. In the Summer Term, we will be studying rocks. This project is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to get a head start and do a little research on minerals and gemstones. A sheet can be found on Satchel:One for guidance. The final aim is to create a fact file or a poster of a chosen gemstone. There will be a prize for the best one!

In Year 9, pupils have been prompted to start thinking about reusing, recycling and reducing what we use to complete a ‘Sustainability at Hollygirt’ project, ready for our topic on recycling in the Summer Term. There are fact sheets and further information on Satchel:One for guidance. The final aim is to convince fellow pupils and staff to save either water, food, plastic, energy or paper at Hollygirt by doing a campaign. There will be a prize for the best campaign and an opportunity to present it when we are back in school.
