Weekly News – Friday 21st April 2023

Message from the Head

Dear Parents,

We have hit the ground running!

This week, we reminded our lovely students about fire drills and first aid.

We have Open Morning tomorrow and I know many of you have other commitments.  However, we look forward to seeing many of you here.

For the tour guides it’s an 8.45am start and for all other pupils it’s 9.00am.  Please keep your fingers crossed for good weather.  We have numerous families booked in to tour tomorrow; it’s so lovely to share our unique school.  We finish at 12.00 noon.  My thanks to the staff for their hard work in making the school look so shiny and especially Mrs Schmidt and Mrs Wright for their input here.

On that note, we have been busy recruiting for our Sixth Form teaching and for Mr Firth’s replacement and against a national background of shortage in Science teaching, we were delighted with the field of candidates, and I will let you know as soon as we have firmed up the appointments.  The candidates were truly impressed with the Hollygirt community and commented on its warmth, the small class sizes and the friendliness (and the excellent behaviour!).

I sent out an update regarding planned building improvements over the summer holidays – see here.  An exciting time for Hollygirt.

I have received many delightful applications from Year 10 for Head Students and Prefects and am looking forward to the interviews next Tuesday.

We have Year 10 reports and Parents’ Evenings coming up.  Do make sure you have logged into your new iSAMS parent portal as all reports will be online from now.

Have a good weekend,

Helen Barsham

Message from the Head of Prep

Good afternoon,

Welcome back!  I hope you all had a lovely break.

What a change in the weather since yesterday.  Hopefully, better weather will be on the way next week.  For those who have come back in summer uniform, the new dresses look beautiful and I know the children love wearing them.  If you still wish to buy one, they are available to order online.

Our Extra Curricular programme will commence next week.  Please return forms to Form Teachers if you have not already done so.

On Thursday afternoon, Mr Appleyard will be coming into school to deliver some PSHE workshops to Years 4, 5 and 6.  Mr Goodhead will be emailing you with more information on this.

Thank you so much for your support with the Prep Swimathon organised by Thoresby.  The children raised an incredible £628 which will be donated to Make-A-Wish.  We do have lots of other house events coming up this term which the children are excited to be involved with.

Have a lovely weekend,

Victoria Wright
