‘Tis the Season

No, not the Christmas season, but summer and all things exams! Having had a somewhat emotional goodbye with Year eleven last Friday, I was amazed to see a large number of them back in school this week. So, what’s brought them in? Primarily some very dedicated teachers who have put on a superb programme of revision sessions targeting specific skills or papers, carefully curated to avoid clashes and ensuring pupils know what to expect from sessions and how to prepare. We have also created an exclusive study space for Year eleven, with space for individual or collaboratively working away from distractions but close to teachers ready to answer any questions they have. Several pupils were making use of the facility this morning in preparation for their business exam this afternoon. All year eleven pupils are welcome to be in school during exam season, many have already benefitted this week from routine and structure it has given them.

I am very much looking forward to Open Morning tomorrow, the order I put in for some good weather appears to have arrived, so we are all set. Thank you to those who have volunteered to serve refreshments, and the pupils offering tours and supporting in classrooms. I’ve been touched by the number of pupil volunteers who are keen to show off our school, and I know they will do an amazing job of showcasing what Hollygirt has to offer. It is not too late to offer support, please dop an email to Mr Cholerton if you are able to help tomorrow. Pupils should arrive by 8.40am, in school uniform, and will be able to be collected by 11.30am.

We will have lots to share with prospective parents on Open Morning, already this term we have had successful DofE trips, Geography Field trips, an Ice-Skating reward trip, a VE day Prep school picnic, and Prep school careers day. Next week, Year three and four are out on a residential trip and Year nine will be undertaking their assessed DofE Bronze expedition; I wish them all a pleasant time, I hope they have plenty of suncream and water to hand as it will be very warm next week.

We are saying goodbye today to Miss Humphries; Miss Humphries joined us on a fixed term contract as maternity cover, and we are delighted for her that she has secured a PE role. We wish her the very best of luck in her new school. Miss Humphries’ form will be covered by Miss Veal, I would also like to introduce Miss Sam, a chemistry and physics specialist, who will be taking on science classes previously taught by Miss Humphries or Mrs Williams until the end of the year.

Ever Onwards and Upwards,
