We’ve got the end of one of the toughest half terms in the school calendar; the first half of the autumn term is always the longest. It can be a shock to the system after a long summer break, for some pupils it involves getting used to a new school, and by the fourth or fifth week in the cold bugs start to circulate. Against that backdrop, Hollygirt has had an amazing first term. The pupils are looking smart, their attitude to learning has been very good, and they have been fantastic representatives of the school at external events such as the Southwell Ploughing match, Swimming galas, Dodgeball championships, Inktober, trips, and Prizegiving.
This morning the senior school took part in House Assemblies, showcasing their creative efforts on the theme of ‘Thank you Farmers’, considering topics such as harvest and food miles. Thank you to those who donated to the food collections, wonderful sculptures were created form the donations (look out on Facebook for photos), and the items will be donated to a local food bank. I was incredibly impressed with the efforts of the pupils, and some staff helpers, in particular the involvement of many pupils including some for whom I know public speaking does not come easy. I’m proud that they feel confident enough to the take the stage here and that their peers are fully supportive.
Looking ahead to next half term, Year 11 have their mock exams from the 4th November. They will need to spend some time revising for these over half term, at the same time striking a balance with rest and relaxation, indeed part of the mocks process is about learning to juggle these needs in the lead up.
Year 10 had their first assembly about their Work Experience process this week, please keep an eye out for emails over the coming weeks which will contain more information. If anyone is able to host one of our Year 10s for work experience (Week beginning 16th March), please do email my PA for more details of what’s required.
Finally, a reminder that we have the annual prizegiving holiday, traditionally, the ‘Prize’ awarded to all pupils by the Chair of Trustees in recognition of their hard work and that of staff. This is on Friday 5th December, so please note that school will be closed on that day.
Have a restful two weeks,
Ever Onward and Upward
Ms Purdy
