Once the weather reaches 28C over three consecutive days, a heatwave is declared. In practice it feels like the entire days are spent desperately trying not to say, “It’s too hot!”. While that has been the refrain around school, I have been impressed with the way the pupils have handled the heat, especially those pupils who have had exams this week. On that note, our GCSE pupils were all done by Tuesday afternoon and the final public exam of the season was this morning, so our A Level pupils are now finished; no doubt all are enjoying the sunshine and looking forward to their first free weekend with no revision! A huge well done to all of them, I hope they have a restful summer while they await their exam results.
There are only two full weeks of term left and plenty to do; please do follow our Facebook page for updates, and our newly launched BlueSky account: https://bsky.app/profile/hollygirtschool.bsky.social. You’ll note recent posts on our Year Five Taster Day, the upcoming Summer Art, Food and Craft show, Tendai’s performance at the prize giving for the Young Creatives Awards, and details of Euan’s upcoming Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. We’re hoping it will have cooled down a bit by the time he sets off as it’s an endurance test without the added pressure of high temperatures. We wish him the very best.
This week, the excitement was building was Sports day; house time this week involved all pupils in the school with the Prep and Seniors joining together in their house teams. I was mistaken in my belief that this was all about organising each House into sub-teams and working out who would represent in each discipline. Oh no, very mistaken. What ensued was a good twenty minutes of thunderous clomping and raised voices as houses practised their House songs and chants! I am sure the quality of sporting performance will be high when the day comes, but I am absolutely convinced that the community spirit will be unshakeable!
