Curriculum Areas

The curriculum at Hollygirt is based on the National Curriculum. French is studied from Year 3 (age 7) and German from Year 8 (age 12).  ICT is taught throughout the school across different subjects.

Whereas in the Junior School there is one form per year, there is a two form entry in Senior School.  From Year 8 girls are placed in sets across the year according to ability in Mathematics, English, Science and French.  Practical subjects are taught in smaller groups across the year.

The GCSE Option Scheme is discussed with Year 9 girls and their parents during the Spring Term, and option groups are planned with the girls’ preferences in mind.  The current Year 10 study English, English Literature, Mathematics, Double Award Science, French and 3 options together with Physical Education, Religious Education and a General Studies course.  The options are chosen from Art, Design and Technology, Geography, German, History, ICT, Music, Religious Education and Vocational Studies.

Currently, as part of their General Studies course, girls in Year 10 and 11 take part in a Community Service project and their careers education is enhanced by Work Experience in Year 10.
